If you plan on just choosing the first one you come across or choosing the one with the lowest price you are setting yourself up for disaster. Not all carpet cleaning companies are created equal. There are many great ones, but there are also many ones that should be avoided. • Choose companies that are insured.
  Companies that carry business insurance are serious about their business and protecting you and themselves. Liability insurance is cheap and any company should be able to afford it. If they do not have it, they are cutting corners and should be avoided.
• Make sure that everything is included.
  The biggest scam in the carpet cleaning industry is “bait and switch” where they lure you in with a cheap price only to raise it when they get into your home with hidden charges. A reputable cleaner will include everything needed for a basic carpet cleaning which should include at least pre-spray, spot cleaning and extraction.
• Check cleaning companies references online.
  These days their are a number of different ways to check up on a company. You can do a Google or Yahoo search for their company name and see what comes up or you can use a service like Angie’s List. Either way, do some research. Beware of some of the free review sites because many vendors tend to post there own favorable reviews.
• Avoid subcontractors.
  Many companies use subcontractors to do their work. They are not in control of subcontractors as well as employees and you often get poorer work. Insist that the company you hire uses their own employees.
